Podcast Alert: "The Families First Coronavirus Response Act: What Is Expected Of Employers?"

In a RiskTrends podcast, Jack McCalmon and Leslie Zieren explain the new federal law, The Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which is effective on April 2.

The new law requires employers with fewer than 500 employees to give eligible workers up to 12 weeks of job-protected FMLA leave. Eligible employees are people who have been on the employer's payroll for at least 30 calendar days prior to the effective date of April 2.

In addition, the new law contains an emergency paid sick leave provision. Covered employers include private employers with fewer than 500 employees; public agencies (ex. governments, schools); "any other entity that is not a private entity" and "anyone acting directly or indirectly in the interests of the employer". An eligible employee is any employee who is on the payroll when the law becomes effective and who is unable to work or telecommute based on one, or more, of six factors.
