Employee Training Is Important For Cybersecurity, But Other Safeguards Are Needed, Too

Many cybersecurity chiefs are increasing employee training to secure their organization's perimeter in response. A recent survey of information technology decision makers found that 38 percent prioritize cybersecurity training and support. Organizations that emphasize training also detect attacks more quickly and isolate them more effectively. 

However, cybercriminals continue to view employees as an organization's weakest link. The vast majority of successful cyberattacks involve human error.

The same survey found that 43 percent of respondents "are kept awake at night worrying about their organizations' cybersecurity, with their biggest fears stemming from insider threats." Commentary

Organizations need both robust employee training and strong cybersecurity technology to effectively prevent and stop cyberattacks.

Next-generation security tools and Network Traffic Analytics (NTA) are gaining popularity among cybersecurity executives as options for moving beyond traditional endpoint and perimeter security solutions in the quest to safeguard data.

NTA utilizes machine learning and behavioral analytics to compare activity to the known behavior of an organization’s applications and processes. It works with existing endpoint protection platforms (EPP) and endpoint detection and response solutions (EDR).

NTA tools generate an automated response to quickly address any attack in progress. As a result, they help security teams identify even the most insignificant anomaly and stop more threats.

Organizations may want to consider implementing NTA and other next-generation cybersecurity protection technology in order to prevent and spot sophisticated attacks that are increasingly tricking employees and slipping past human detection, as well as intentional internal breaches.
